OUR PROJECTS

“Behind every hate crime is a message: You are not welcome here.  Behind every strong community is another:Yes you are”

BDREC is working on a Community against Hate Crime (CAHC) project, funded by MOPAC, to support victims of hate crime with 4 other boroughs in North East London. The aim of the project is to provide Advice and Advocacy Service to support victims of hate crime, establish a Community Witness and Support Team (CWST) and to support victims in their homes and neighbourhood. The project also aims to bring victims /survivors together by setting up hate crime victims mutual support groups.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE COMMUNITY WITNESS & SUPPORT TEAM

Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to do something to oppose hate crime?

Would you benefit from free-training, experience and developing your skills?

If YES, then contact us ASAP to volunteer for the Community Against Hate Crime project, which is funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime.

We are setting up a Community Witness &Support Team. This is a team of volunteers who visit victims of hate crime to support them, take down reports of incidents, deter and witness things that happen.  In our experience perpetrators of hate crime tend to focus on people who they think are isolated.  The team will work to end this isolation.

We will provide training for volunteers which will include

·        Report taking

·        Safety First and principles of Safeguarding

·        Basics of the law about hate crime

·        The duties and services that agencies should provide to victims of hate crime

·        Basic advocacy skills

We will pay expenses – our policy is that no-one should be out of pocket as a result of their voluntary work for us.

WE ALSO RUN A SERVICE THAT PROVIDES ADVICE AND INFORMATION ON:

  • EQUALITY AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
  • HATE CRIME AND RACIAL DISCRIMINATION INCIDENTS
  • WELFARE BENEFITS AND HOUSING
  • HELP WITH FORM FILLING
  • EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION
  • INTERPRETING

WE WORK TO ELIMINATE ALL FORMS OF UNFAIR DISCRIMINATION AND PROMOTE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND GOOD RELATIONS BETWEEN PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT RACIAL OR RELIGIOUS GROUPS, DIFFERENT BACKGROUND AND LIFESTYLES, DISABILITY, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION WITHIN THE BOROUGH AND THE SURROUND.
