ABOUT US

OUR APPROACH

B&DREC (the Barking & Dagenham Racial Equality Council) became a UK registered charity in 1999, having started its activities almost two decades before.

For us the concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect.

Diversity means difference and this can be many and varied in the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, national origin, culture, marital status, family structure, health, values, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies.

  • Victims of Racial Discrimination
  • Victims of Racial Violence and Harassment
  • Information, advice and support to individuals or groups – community or voluntary – to help them to obtain equality of opportunity to our communities.

Equality is about making sure people are treated fairly and given fair chances. Equality is not about treating everyone in the same way, but it recognises that their needs are met in different ways.

OUR TEAM

Quality Statement.

Barking & Dagenham Racial Equality Council is committed to achieving the highest standard possible in all our work to eliminate unfair discrimination and promote equal opportunity and good relations between people of different backgrounds, groups and lifestyles groups.

We will do this by:-

  • Setting standards for all our services.
  • Regular monitoring and reviewing our performance with reference to those standards.
  • Making changes if they improve the quality of our services.

Our group is being helped by Big Society Funding CIC, and their support is funded by the Big Lottery Fund’s 'Communities Can'.
